timeless romance of a Georgian castle on the banks of
the North Esk river.
The castle was built incorporating the very same
foundations used by Henry Dundas, 1st Viscount
Melville, in 1786 for entertaining on a grand scale – and
today this tradition is still going!
In recent years, the castle has been sympathetically
restored and offers an array of rooms perfect for
weddings of any size. Whether religious, civil or
humanist, you’ll find the perfect location to say ‘I do’.
AS NEWLYWEDS
, make a grand entrance down the
sweeping staircase to your reception and enjoy the
congratulations of your friends and family. The bright
south-facing public rooms are the perfect setting for
your guests to meet and mingle as you are having your
photos taken.
Alternatively, drinks and canapés can be served on the
south lawn, accessed through a secret turret stairwell
where the grounds and fountain provide a charming
backdrop for photographs.
Enter the Viscount Dining Room to the melodious
tune of a Scottish piper for your first meal as a married
couple, and join your guests for a beautifully prepared
wedding breakfast.
For intimate affairs, the elegant ballroom, with views
over the south lawn and fountain, can seat 80 while the
bright and airy Arniston Room can hold 32. During the
summer months, and weather permitting, you can hold
your ceremony outside on the south lawn near the
fountain or on the terrace – the custom built pavilion
marquee can comfortably seat 200 guests for a larger
wedding, with plenty of space for Scottish reels or a band
to carry on your celebrations into the evening.
