HealtH tips
and angry until you eat what it is craving (usually sugar).
You just have to grit your teeth and stay strong! Make
sure you’re prepared to have healthy snacks on you to
satisfy certain cravings. Your body will soon realise that
the ‘hanger’ stage isn’t working. It then goes to plan B:
survival mode. Suddenly your energy levels will increase,
and you’ll feel amazing. At this stage, you would have
reset your body cravings.
Do
: naked Tuesdays. Be naked with yourself! Confront it,
look at yourself and learn to love yourself – that’s a huge
part of progress. Promise yourself that you will treat your
body with the love it deserves. Keep a positive attitude!
Don’t
: lose patience. If you’re anything like me, you will
want to be an expert at certain workouts straightaway,
instantly like health foods and see a difference in your
body after one day. Just have patience. Take the
opportunity to learn, record your progress and watch
yourself grow. Take your time. Be persistent. Remember
why you started. You know what it feels like to give up –
let’s see how much better you feel when you don’t.
And finally…
Do
: remember we are only human. Spinach is good for
the body, but doughnuts are good for the soul!

MILLIE’S
MANTRAS
One day, it clicked
. I was sick and tired (literally)
of comfort eating and being so unfit. I set myself a
target to become as fit and healthy as possible within 80
days, no fad diet involved. Having had many ups and
downs (mainly ups), I want to take you through some
key lessons I learned on my journey.
Don’t say ‘If’. Do say ‘When’.
It’s amazing how much
being successful requires a positive attitude. Visualising
helps so much. Say things like ‘I can’t wait until I’m that
proud of my body!’ instead of ‘I really wish I looked like
that…’ Of course, we all have bad days. Some days we eat
our greens and fit in a workout. Others, we don’t even
get dressed properly, and the only exercise we get will be
between the sofa and the loo. It’s called balance.
Do
: remember that it’s 70 per cent diet, 30 per cent gym. I
cannot stress enough how important your diet is! Don’t
worry if you can’t, or won’t, dedicate an hour or two each
time to working out. Eating well will help both your
mental and physical well-being. Up your fruit and
vegetable portions, eat only lean meats, cut out processed
foods, and lower your sugar and dairy intake. Combine this
with regular exercise, even 20 minutes wherever you can,
and you have the healthiest, safest way to lose weight.
Don’t
: fad diet. They don’t work. Don’t look at the scales
or obsess over calories. Find another way to record your
progress. Use a tape measure, or take photographs. Also,
calories mean energy. Turn to natural, good food for your
fuel as opposed to sugars or processed foods. You’ll feel
so much better!
Do
: Saying that, do expect the ‘hangover’ stage. This
happens when you decide to completely cut out bad
food from your diet. The ‘hanger’ stage is where your
body goes into shut down mode, making you hungry
