1. First of all
i talk to
the bride about the
look they want. For
eva’s complexion i’ve
suggested more neutral, nude
colours, combined with the
flicked eyes for the classic 40s
Hollywood look. But you could
go as extreme as the amy
Winehouse look!
2. Prepare the hair
with
volumising mousse. it’ll help to
hold the curl much beter.
Separate it into even sectons,
then get the partng to see
which way the hair falls. a side
partng works best for this
look, but it depends on what
the bride’s comfortable with.
3. Tuck the ends
of the hair
under the roller and start
rolling really tghtly. Secure
with a pin. Use small
rollers at the back
and sides and larger
rollers on top
(although use bigger
rollers for thicker
hair). Spray with
hairspray.
4. Before starting the
make-up
, prepare the skin
with a moisturiser (classics
like Johnsons, Simple,
Ponds or elizabeth arden
are good for the vintage
look) then use a spot
zapper for any last minute
outbreaks. apply a strobe
cream for a luminous
effect, apart from on the t-zone.
5. Do a colour test
to make
sure the foundaton is a good
match. if the skin is partcularly
dry you can use a tnted
moisturiser, but for the more
‘done’ 40s look you will need a
thicker foundaton. apply it to
the face with fingers or a brush
and rub it in with your fingers,
remembering to
include the eyelids.
Use a concealer under
the eyes, with a shade
darker for any
blemishes.
6. Powder the
face
– essental for
the 1940s look. With a
big brush, use swirling
motons, working down
the face. always powder the
eyes to prime them for the
eyeshadow. Use good brushes
– Mac brushes are expensive,
but worth it.
7. Next groom the
brows
. i’m giving eva
the elizabeth taylor
‘natural’ look. Powder
them using brow cake,
then apply mat brown
eye shadow using an
angled brush and precise firm
strokes. You can use a slick of
Vaseline to fix the eyebrows.
8. Now use a beige
eyeshadow
to cover the
whole eye socket, applying it
with a contour brush and
blending it with a fluffer brush.
You don’t want really heavy
eyes on your wedding day. Put
a lighter shadow on the centre
of the eye to ‘ping it out’.
9. Use a really thin brush
to line the eyes with liquid
liner. Start at the outer
edge of each eye, working
in, and going between the
lashes to make sure the line is
covered. Check the lines are
even on both sides – if you’ve
applied too much, use a coton
bud with a face wipe over the
