The

Jonathan D Ellis helps you
create your vintage-style
wedding
Your civil partnership is a beautiful life event
is a beautiful life event – but unfortunately it
can be costly as well. If you’re on a tight
budget, go vintage! It puts a classic touch on a
traditionally fashionable, over-the-top day
and there are so many elements you can take
from bygone decades.
Retro-chic vintage weddings are trendy
for many reasons, not least because you can
save a lot of money on your wedding by
creating a really unique wedding event
bursting with vintage glamour, as well as
making it eco-friendly.
Some of the most expensive items for a
wedding, including bridal gowns and
bridesmaids’ dresses, can be bought for less
than half the price of a brand new version.
Get inspired with some ideas…
OUTFITS
– Guys or gals… why not hire vintage
army uniforms? Go for a hot GI wedding day
complete with a swing band!
WEDDING DECOR
– Let the vintage theme
weave itself through your wedding favours,
cake, table settings and overall decor. Old
books, bunting, birch tree branches – whatever
tickles your fancy. Keep your theme going
throughout your decor. Hire a candyfloss
machine – it’ll keep everyone smiling!
PROPS
– You may not have an old cast iron
bed kicking around for photos but
incorporating vintage items, such as an old
typewriter, suitcases and other vintage
props, adds a retro feel.
PHOTOGRAPHY
– When going vintage, you
must go black and white. Everyone looks
beautiful in B&W, no matter what!
ENTERTAINMENT
– Don’t forget to get this
right. A vintage wedding with trance music
doesn’t quite work! Opt for music that suits
your theme – a 50s Diva or a sexy jazz quartet.

Dress like a starlet
Sparkle like a Hollywood starlet in a Jo
Barnes vintage headdress and accessories.
‘I rummage far and wide for wonderful
vintage jewellery and source beautiful
pieces from all over the world,’ says Jo, who
started her business after creating her own
bridal headdress from her grandmother’s
1940s pearl necklaces and brooches.
Each piece is carefully handpicked, or
you can incorporate your own heirlooms
in a custom made headdress.
