Whether you see your first dance as a
great way to get the party started or
an ordeal to endure on the day, dance
lessons will ensure that you are more
relaxed when you step onto the floor
for your first dance.
The first step is to choose a song or a dance style. If
you have a particular dance style in mind, then you will
need to find suitable music or a song.
So which dance suits your personality? The waltz is
elegant, a social foxtrot is easygoing, quickstep is bubbly,
the tango is dramatic… Or are you more of a Latin lover? A
rumba is romantic, the cha cha cha is cheeky, a salsa is
sexy and the Argentinian tango gloriously passionate.
If you don’t fancy a bit of ballroom, could you star in
your favourite movie dance? Think of
Dirty Dancing
,
Scent

or
Pulp Fiction
… remember John Travolta and
Uma Thurman strutting their stuff? Alternatively, think of
your favourite musical or music video. Can you picture
yourself in a scene?
Most couples have no previous dance experience and
prefer to have personal lessons so they can focus on
learning their chosen dance style. Others, who have
planned in advance and have several months before the
wedding, quite often like to start with a wedding dance
introductory course or beginners’ course, so they can learn
a bit more about the different dance styles before
choosing what they would like to do for their first dance.
It’s a good idea to have an initial lesson a fewmonths
or more before the wedding, if possible, to find out if you
are a natural dancer or need a little more practice!
Learning to dance for your wedding is a fun thing to
do together and many couples find it one of the most
enjoyable parts of the wedding planning. So loosen up
and shake a leg!
