people noticed this! – reflected our roots: Bolivian saltenas for
Camilo and fish goujons and chips for me, wrapped in
newspaper. and the newspapers that the fish and chips were
wrapped in were copies of the Catgate stories!

i think it’s fair to say that people had a great time and we had
many messages afterwards about our fantastic, glamourous and
touching day. and there was a more serious positive reaction as
well. Someone later relayed to me that one of our guests had
been in two minds about whether to attend, not really being
sure how they felt about two men getting married. But they did
attend and were won over by the moving services. if our day had
this effect, even if just on one person, i am very happy.
For Camilo and myself, the day seemed to pass so quickly
that there wasn't time to think about how anything was going,
and maybe this is true for many couples on their day. We had
been planning the event for over a year, and had spent ages
perfecting all the details we wanted.
But on the day itself we were in the hands of the wedding
organiser, so everything ran smoothly and we had no worries at
all. By the evening party all the formal activities had taken place
and we could see people enjoying themselves, so we were
delighted… mind you, the little shots of aguardiente that we took
around to everyone might have helped the mood as well!
it’s difficult to pick out individual highlights as the whole
day really was so wonderful. The high point for us was
committing ourselves to each other, in the presence of so many
family and friends. We have been together for more than eight
years, so it’s not as if our daily lives were going to be
transformed. But it felt right to stand up there and publicly
affirm our commitment to each other.
What tips would we pass on to other couples? Well
everyone’s day will be unique, but we found the personal
touches were much appreciated by our guests, so it’s worth
thinking about how you might incorporate something uniquely
yours into the day’s events. my other tip is, always expect to go
over budget, so have something in reserve for this. above all,
take a moment to enjoy it – for all that people say it is your day,
you won’t have much time to yourself!
