took a handheld microphone and went from table to table saying
a little something about the guests on each table and their
importance to us. ok, so not every single person was singled out,
but i think i got away with it. People appreciated that personal
touch, even if they did recognise that it was all off the cuff! one of
my brothers then did an interesting speech in reply.

after the speeches we had a surprise for our guests. We
wanted to recognise Camilo's Bolivian origins and had searched
for a group that could come in and do some Bolivian dancing
for us. almost at the last minute we found one to come and
perform a couple of Bolivian folk dances. For the Bolivian
guests it was a reminder of home; for our other latino guests it
was something they could easily relate to, and for us Europeans
it was a beautiful splash of colour and excitement. Even more
special was that, after performing a dance or two on their own,
they came and dragged the guests onto the dance floor –
allaying any worries about getting the party started!

– segued into the
Hokey cokey
, so that we could
then grab guests onto the dance floor and they would do
something silly that they all knew. But i needn't have worried
about our guests being reluctant to get up – we could hardly
restrain them, and that pleased us no end. it was obvious
people were having a good time, and that was one of the
things we cared about most.
For the evening party we had changed out of our morning
suits and into more casual clothes for the first dance. The mood
changed as the lights in the venue cast a purple glow, creating
more of a party atmosphere. as well as the fantastic DJ, we also
had a live Bolivian duo, who were marvellous, playing and
singing a mixture of latino and popular music.
