e met through mutual friends and just hit it
off. Two weeks into the friendship, we decided
to make things official – it’s now seven years
later and we have finally tied the knot.
in 2009, i proposed to Joanna at Timberwolf Lodge in
the Wisconsin dells. We had a really long engagement, but
decided that we wanted to have our wedding close to our
seven-year anniversary.
We decided on a garden theme and Joanna wanted to
incorporate our favourite colours. Mine was mint and hers
pink – our bridesmaids were in these colours, and the guys
wore trainers, trousers and mint braces, with white shirts
and bow ties. Joanna wore a huge, fluffy dress by Mori Lee
and i was in white trousers, a mint shirt, white vest and
trainers. everyone looked fabulous!
We had fans made that were actually our order of
ceremony cards. Joanna hand-made every single centrepiece,
which were gorgeous! There were flowers everywhere and
we made sure most were sprayed our colours, or white.
My guitar teacher played throughout our ceremony.
When the wedding party came out, he played
Marry Me
by
Train, and when Joanna and i came out, he started playing
A
Thousand Years
by christina Perry. When the ceremony was
done and we were all walking out, he played
All Of Me
by
John Legend.
i was walked down the aisle by my father and
grandfather and Joanna was walked down by her father. our
wedding party was almost all family. i had two brothers and
two children as groomsmen, as well as one of my best guy
friends. Joanna had her sister, my sister, cousin and niece as
well as her best friend in her party. The wedding party were
paired up by height, except for the best man and the maid of
honour, and they walked down as couples. We had three
flower girls, who were our nieces, and our niece and
youngest son were our junior bride and ring bearer.
We wrote our own vows and i was so nervous about it i
almost passed out! My grandmother officiated at the
wedding, and would only do it if we wrote our own vows. i
have a huge fear of public speaking and really didn’t want to
do my own vows, but i pulled through in the end and nailed
it. it felt great and i wouldn’t change a thing. The ceremony
itself was very traditional.
