Just north of Nyc, canada notched in as number four in
the world to take the plunge with the civil Marriage Act of
20 July 2005. Before the act had passed, however, court
decisions had already legalised several same-sex
marriages in eight canadian provinces – so there was no
stopping the turning of the tides.
canada is a huge country and offers a varied set of
options to couples looking to get hitched in this diverse
location. the canadian rockies offer a cosy, secluded and
intimate place to say your vows – and also the
opportunity for a winter sport honeymoon afterwards for
the thrill-seekers.
for somewhere with a little more drama, why not
head to Niagara in ontario and have the stunning
waterfalls as the backdrop to your ceremony. Niagara

In May 2013, despite protests in Paris, gay marriage
became legal in france. on 17 May 2013, the cons tu onal
council ruled that the same sex marriage law was
cons tu onal, the same day President françois hollande
promulgated the bill which allowed the first official same-
sex ceremony to take place in Montpellier on 29 May.
Arguably the most romantic city in the world, Paris is
a lovers’ delight. there are a number of pretty chateaux
that you can get exclusive use of, for a sophisticated
soirée with your friends. the country is bursting with
stylish art galleries and restaurants – and of course, what
better place to take your wedding photos than in front of
the eiffel tower itself!
for couples who aren’t residents of france, there is a
40-day residency requirement, which in general simply
means you have to have resided in the city or town you
want to get hitched in for this period of time before you
can get married.
