We hired everything ourselves – the marquee, crockery,
cutlery, caterers, refrigerators – put together the reception
space, and arranged the whole event. It was an incredibly
stressful time – it made me sick and Luke likes to joke that he
hit the bottle! Looking back, though, it was worth it. The DIY
element of our day brought everyone closer together; lots of
family came over before the wedding and were in the garden
every day leading up to it, to help set up.
The reaction to our wedding was incredible. All of our
guests said it was the best wedding they had ever been to, and
everyone had a great time. We went to London for two nights
a er the wedding as a mini-honeymoon, and stayed in a hotel
with our own hot tub. A er all the stress, we just wanted to
chill out for a couple of days and enjoy each other's company.

Let other
people do things for you so you don’t have to worry about every
detail. Most importantly, make sure you take time to take
everything in while it’s happening, especially on the day itself.
We had such a great time organising our own wedding
that we decided to start up our own event company called
Themed By Us. Our day was exactly what we wanted it to be,
and now we want to be able to help other couples have just
as much fun as we did –- without the stress of DIY!
