the very day of the wedding!
We didn’t write our own vows, as we wanted to keep
things short and sweet – especially as there were children at
the ceremony. Luke’s stepbrother was our ringbearer, our
brothers were our best men, and our witnesses were friends
we had known from when we first met. We had what was
called a ‘kentish Ceremony’, and signed the register to Don’t
Sit under the apple Tree. Once we had begun, I didn't feel
nervous – even though I had spent the months leading up to it
worried about fluffing my lines. To conclude, we walked out to
I Do Believe in Fairies from the Peter Pan movie!

– we must have been putting people off their
games of golf, because the reception didn’t get any quieter
from there! all the guests were waiting for us to arrive, and a
friend made canapés for us as a wedding present, which
were served to our guests with champagne.
We had a life-sized model of the Tardis for people to take
photos with, coupled with a smoke machine to make it look
really atmospheric. With the help of our friends and family, we
made wooden heart-shaped wedding favours, and hung them
from the trees in the gardens along with fairy lights. We even
had a model of an unexploded bomb at the centre of the
garden, just for ’40s authenticity. Our entertainment was an 18-
piece big band inside the marquee, which played right until the
end of the evening, and had everyone up dancing all night. Our
brothers and best men also sang rainbow Connection to us
live, accompanied by guitar.

‘The DIY element of our day
brought everyone closer
together; lots of family came
over before thewedding and
were in the garden every day
leading up to it, to help set up.’
