PWM
: What was the first thing you did when you knew you
had to start planning your wedding?
Kirsten
: Hit my parents up for money! Ha!
Both
: Cost went a long way to determining what kind of
wedding we’d have, so I guess we thought of the money first.
For us it is most important to keep it small, local to Shoreditch
and food-orientated!
PWM
: Have you got a theme or wedding style that you’re
trying to stick to? How have you incorporated this into your
planning?
Both
: Yes! We didn’t have themes in mind from the outset
but the venues have inspired us, so now we unofficially have
two: ‘light’ from Shoreditch Town Hall, because its motto is
‘More light more power’, in recognition of the lighting
industry that used to be based there. We like it because of the
association with knowledge and justice – Illuminating those
in darkness. Then at the restaurant, Les Trois Garçons, we have
a loose ‘jungle’ theme in recognition of the numerous
taxidermy animals on display, including a tiger, giraffe and
alligator, all wearing tiaras! These themes are really just to
amuse us, although if our guests wished to incorporate them
into their fashion choices for the day we would be delighted.
PWM
:What part of the planning process has been themost fun?
Kirsten
: The wine tasting at the restaurant! Rosé and white
champagne, red and white wine, followed by dessert wine.
Effie had three glasses of the dessert wine, just to be sure.
Effie
: Debating the seating plan and trying to put our like-
minded, single and hot friends together. Planning the
honeymoon to Hawaii has been pretty exciting too.
PWM
: What part of the planning process has been the most
difficult?
Effie
: Finding a sodding dress! We’ve both been good at booking
the venues straightaway and getting the important jobs done.
It’s the little things that will make the difference, which are
harder to sort out. Like the drag queens with boomboxes and
hiring a lion. You just can’t find the services these days.
PWM
: What advice would you offer other couples planning
their big day?
Both
: Take plenty of holidays before the wedding and do it
over a margarita (drink not pizza). Failing that, just make sure
you talk to each other about what’s important for each of you
to get from the day. Make a list and budget early as it will all
start adding up quickly.
PWM
: Good luck to you both – we look forward to telling our
readers how it all went and seeing you in all your glory!
