CAREManchester is keen to support all same-sex
treatments and so became one of the first clinics
to offer treatment involving same-sexmale
surrogacy. They explain the procedure involved
It has been a number of years since we treated the first
same-sex female couple wanting to start a family. When
the law was changed in April 2010 enabling same-sex
male couples to have a child through surrogacy, we
became one of the first clinics to offer treatment. We
carried out the first treatment cycles early in 2011 and we
are now the leading centre for host surrogacy in the UK.
The whole procedure is relatively straightforward. The
couple identify a surrogate from one of the organisations
supporting surrogacy, such as COTS Surrogacy UK or the
British Surrogacy Centre. We are able to offer treatment
with either a known donor or an anonymous egg donor
from our bank, in a host surrogate.
We have a very active donation programme, carrying
out over 120 cycles a year and our dedicated donation/
surrogacy teammanages the surrogacy cycle from start to
initial pregnancy scans, including screening, consultation,
drugs, egg collection and
transfer.
At CARE we know that
no two patients are alike
and need to be treated
according to their individual
needs and circumstances. We
always ensure that all our patients
feel supported.
CARE Manchester is part of the CARE Fertility Group,
one of the world’s leading IVF providers, with a reputation
for helping to shape IVF. We are continuing to expand the
boundaries of IVF science and related screening
procedures and are determined to continue to grow and
develop our services to patients, introducing more
treatment options under one roof. We believe our unit
brings together the best in science, modern technology,
clinical and nursing practice to offer our patients the best
chance of success.
