interesting walks to satisfy both the experienced roamer and
the casual stroller – surrounded by the verdant woodland, as
well as a colourful flora and fauna, it’s the perfect place to let
yourself go and indulge in the beauty of nature. Planning a
summer wedding? Make sure to check out the magnificent
greenhouse for an impressive display of colour.

If making a lifetime commitment to each other doesn’t
keep you quite busy enough during your stay, there is an
abundance of activities on offer to keep you amused. For a
bit of light exercise, a hard surface tennis court is available
for those staying on the estate, and fishing aficionados will
be in their element on the Skeldon fishing beats, which are
considered to be some of the best. The abundance of
wildlife on the estate itself makes just a simple walk around
the grounds into a wildlife trail. If you’re looking to spot
something a little more out of the ordinary, the staff at
Skeldon can arrange a private display of falconry, including
hawks, owls and eagles, so that you can really get up close
and personal with these majestic birds.

When venturing away from the estate, the local area has
more than enough to keep you entertained. Golfers will find
a home in some of Scotland’s finest golf courses – including
the famous Royal Troon and Turnberry – which are all within
easy reach of Skeldon. Dumfries House, formerly the home
of the Marquess of Bute, and recently purchased by HRH the
Prince of Wales, is a short drive away and well worth a visit.
South Ayrshire is blessed with beautiful countryside
and a host of attractions for visitors, including the Ayrshire
Equitation Centre for horse lovers and amateur riders alike.
Ice skating and even a clay pigeon school are available.
locally, you’ll find a number of impressive castles, as well
as the Scottish Maritime Museum, the Robert Burns Cottage
and Museum and Ayr Race Course – not to mention the
opportunity to immerse yourself in local culture and cuisine.
