Having already received universal acclaim from critics a er
its premier at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival in the USA,
the film is due for release in the UK in February 2015 – and
audiences here are eagerly awaiting its arrival. Described

cinema is an exploration of love, life and why we choose to
be the people we are.
Directed by the award-winning Ira Sachs,
Love Is
Strange
tells the story of Ben and George (John Lithgow
and Alfred Molina), a New York couple who marry a er 39
years together.
A er the Catholic school George works at as a choir
director hears about the marriage, he is fired from his job –
and the couple can no longer afford their Chelsea
apartment without his salary.
The film follows their resulting separation from one
another as they are forced to live apart, relying on friends

Love Is Strange
is a multi-generational story that
examines the different ways each of us experience love –
and what we expect from it – at different points in our
lives,’ says director Sachs.
‘What does love look like to those who have been
together for a lifetime, and are now in their later years?
For the characters of Ben and George, that love is given
shape by loss, both material and personal, and how that
loss can shine a bright light on all that these men had in
their love for each other over so many years.’
The star-studded cast have been praised for their
heartfelt, upli ing portrayals. Not only do Lithgow and
Molina give powerhouse performances, but the supporting
line-up – which includes actors Marisa Tomei and Darren
Burrows – paint a picture of a diverse and deeply realistic
set of characters that are effortlessly relatable.
Love Is Strange
takes a bold look at love and how we
choose to live our lives – both when times are good and in
adversity. For any couple looking to make a vow of ‘for
better or for worse’, this is one movie that needs to be on
the ‘must see’ list.
