PW16 Spring 2016 - page 3

WelcoMe!
How time flies! Can you believe it’s been
ten years since our first historic civil
partnership ceremonies took place,
including that of Mike and myself.
In this issue, we look at how far we’ve
come and hear from some of those who
helped make history. Alison and Jill tell
how it’s not always been plain sailing, challenging discrimination over the
years, but the progress is there to be celebrated.
Our look at the impact of same-sex marriage on the US economy
further underlines the pace of change throughout the world. But our work
is not done – we now need full recognition in every country, opening doors
to allow any couple to travel to any destination and come back to the UK
‘married’ like opposite sex couples can.
Right here we’re celebrating the individuality of each one of the couples
featured this issue. Adrian and Paul wanted their wedding to be traditional
with a twist, right down to pulling pints of their own wedding ale. Emma
and Maja met playing rugby with Hampstead Ladies and got married with a
relaxed, joyful vibe, arriving in a removal van! And why not, hey…
Darren and Jon got to know each other through chatting online and
went for the full works at a stunning stately home. And Josie and Kyla’s
story shows how the love of your life can come along when you least expect
– the couple became soul mates a er meeting at the supermarket.
We could go on with awesome stories, but just reading them makes you
realise how amazing all these couples are and how individual you can make
your wedding. This issue is also packed with the
new season’s fashion, wedding trends and advice
on everything for your family and home, to help
you make the right choices. It’s all about finding
your style and doing what makes you happy.
