John and Michael
M
ichael and i were introduced by our
Shiatsu masseur, who said we’d be a
great match as we both have a good
sense of humour! i proposed to
Michael in 2007 in Sydney. We were
both on a work sabba cal when i got down on one knee by
Sydney harbour Bridge, but we didn't plan the wedding
seriously un l after another holiday in Sydney, at the
beginning of 2009.
our big day was on St Patrick’s day. as i’m irish and my
40th birthday was the day after St Patrick’s day, the theme
was 40 shades of green. The inspira on for this came from
the well-known irish song,
40 Shades of Green
, the 40 from
my birthday and the green from my na on’s iconic colour!
even though Michael is a londoner, he s ll loved the idea
for this theme.
We decided to get married in the old Finsbury Town hall
in london, as Michael’s parents had met here for the first
me many years ago and so the venue has a special meaning
for his family.
The venue is also very impressive, with beautiful rooms
and unique features, such as a stunning sweeping
staircase. The Grand hall has elegant statues and stunning
chandeliers giving the space a glamorous aura, perfect for
our big day.
We had a humanist ceremony that we wrote ourselves,
as i’m a humanist minister. This element of the ceremony
was important to us both, and i now conduct humanist
weddings! our friends did some beau ful readings for us.
