It’s a spring thing
Cute and quirky pleating, soft and elegant pastels
and more pink than you can shake a leg at! This
season is ultra-fem, ultra-glam and ultra-quirky – the
perfect mix for a spring wedding.
FRESH FLORALS
What’s more appropriate to kick-start
this season than an array of vibrant,
unique and show-stopping floral
designs? Some retro, others
futuristic – as long as they’re bold
and bright, you’re doing it right!
Christopher Kane
gave a
botanical science lesson with his
floral printed clothing, showing a
dissected flower motif. And while
Burberry
stuck to geometric
printing,
Galliano
went
luminous pink and paisley with
his collection.
Marc Jacobs
and
Marni
kept their floral
collections diverse with
subtle Asian influences.
PASTEL PERFECT
The dark and rich colour
palette of winter has
retired for another year
and in its place you will find a
delicious mood board of lemon sherbet,
baby blue, candyfloss pink and mint green
gracing the catwalk. Soft and elegant, these
colours are pure, youthful and super-sweet.
Head-to-toe pastels took centre stage during
fashion week, where
Lacoste
’s long, pale green
dress displayed cut out and enlarged petal
leaves, scattered across the full length of the dress,
evoking a sporty yet feminine look this season.
DKNY
moved toward the smart and tailored look with
a two-piece suit, but no trousers or skirts were in sight –
instead the jacket was paired with the highly trendy
Bermuda shorts you will see this spring. The colour
palette itself was a
real show-stopper, as
they incorporated
pale, creamy purples
with lemon sorbet
and an angelic baby
blue.
PLEATING
MOMENTS
This spring, pleating is
a
must
! Whether it’s a
few simple box pleats
to add volume to a
dress or pleating
galore with a knife-
pleated circle skirt, this
season no wardrobe
should go without
them.
Pleating not only brings
to life a dull skirt or a plain
over-starched blouse, it
gives a subtle nod to the
craftsmanship and
creativity of the fashion
designers and creators
around the world, past and
present.
Givenchy
stole the
limelight with their
amazingly pleated viscose
jersey dress. The full circle
skirt with multi-coloured
panels and shimmering
black viscose is a visual
delight – a garment to suit all figures and also one that
comes in an array of beautiful colours such as orange,
tan, white and black.
Vanessa Bruno
also gave a nod to the pleat with her
’60s mid-length skirt, paired with an orange high collar
button jumper.
