Fashion
your old winter coat.
Well, this winter the most important fashion
garment to flaunt is your coat. Make it oversized – as
oversized as you can manage before it drags you to
the floor! Bigger truly is better.
And after a long-anticipated wait, the ’60s cape is
back with a superhero vengeance. Okay, maybe not
leather, Batman style, but it is definitely a garment
for heroes.
If you’re not ready for a full-on cape, take to the
new modern revival. The on-trend oversized coat has
been given a new tailored touch, to give a larger,
wider back that overlaps the arms and gives the
‘cape effect’.
IN THE NAVY
Before you jump to shopping for your standard black
wedding suit, think again. And for all you chic
‘fashionistas’ with 50 shades of black lurking in the
wardrobe – STOP! We know what you’re thinking –
‘Black is something that I can wear effortlessly and
look good in, no matter what.’ But tear up old habits
and indulge in the new black: navy.
LACOSTE
have paired dark blue with body-
con cotton dresses featuring a classic sporty
edge.
MARC BY MARC JACOBS
have created
beautiful dark blue silk skirts and dresses and
the wonderful
MICHAEL KORS
sent a much
bolder and brasher blue down the catwalk, in
a nod to 80s sci-fi, with wide-set shoulder
pads and geometric shaping.
THE MIDI-SKIRT
It’s time to pack away your minis and micros,
because the ’70s midi skirt has taken over.
Whether it’s a tight, bottom-squeezing
pencil, or a freer flowing cut, you can be sure
that you’ll see a lot less thigh – too right in
the approaching cold! Who wants to see
chicken skin and pale knobbly knees near
Christmas time?
Keep your eye on the midi skirt because
however you fancy wearing the length, there’s
a new form developing, with a nicely fitted
body and a slight flare at the knee. It’s a
flowing and fluid shape that complements all
shapes of legs and can be seen in the autumn
collections by
MOSCHINO
,
CELINE
and
ACNE
.
