Phil and christian
see the top table for speeches. i bought
some small coloured crystals off the
internet for the middle of the tables, to
scater some light about.
We had lived in Brighton before
moving to london, so were aware that
cake-makers choccywoccydoodah did
something out of the ordinary – but we
had no idea what we wanted. the
proprietor (now in a tV show about the
shop) was certainly full of ideas, and
although not all of them were to our
taste, she pulled out of us what we
would love to see. apparently, that
involved chocolate representatons of
our cats, flowers and a giant chocolate
love heart – not what i had in my mind
when i walked in there, but i’m pleased
it was what we got on the day!
Our ceremony was around 30
minutes long. it was based on several
presented to us by the registrar (who
was very engaged in the process) and
allowed for two readings. We each had
a friend do a reading for us, which they
had writen themselves – and we chose
female friends to give gender balance.
For the vows and the rest of the
ceremony, we took what the registrar
gave us. it was surprisingly heartelt
and covered all we would want to say,
so we lef it unchanged.
We had two children of family
friends as ring bearers. they were
thrilled to be part of the day, and we
were very pleased with their work! We
each wanted our close friends to be
involved, so we had both best men and
witnesses to sign the register, rather
than one person doing both.
The ceremony itself
was very genuine,
very touching and
meant a lot to me. I
was worried it might
get lost with so much
going on, or feel like a
show given the venue
and set-up.
