I
met Kerry almost five years ago. I work at
a magazine and my boss, Kevin, was taking
me round the city to meet our advertsers.
Kerry was first on the list – she was
managing a local pub in norwich, and
Kevin said that she was the friendliest of
our contacts. I’d find out later how friendly! I used
to deliver the magazine to the pub monthly, and
each tme I popped in, Kerry would make a point of
saying hi. She admits that I caught her eye, and
when she found out I was gay through mutual
friends, she was shocked… and pleased!
Our paths crossed one night in town (through a
litle engineering by Kerry!) and we clicked
straightaway, having a fun, boozy, random night
together with friends. a fun first date followed, and
When Emma met Kerry
through a chance
encounter at work, they
clicked immediately and
soon wanted to secure a
future together. Their
ceremony combined
traditonal commitment
with a vibrant celebra-
ton of individuality, as
Emma explains
we’ve barely spent a day apart since. There were
no mind-games that ofen come with datng – just
fun, honesty and soon enough, love.
One night in a pub we were talking about how I
love to dance and Kerry doesn’t. I asked her what
she’d do if she ever had to dance publicly with me –
like a first dance. I realised that I wanted to marry
Kerry, and so I had to form a plan! In September
2009 I had the pleasure of interviewing the band
Temper Trap on my old radio show and I told them I
was planning to propose to Kerry at their gig that
night, when they played their song, ‘Sweet
dispositon’. They said they’d help, and that Lorenzo
from the band would step forward when they were
about to start the song.
I bought a t-shirt for Kerry to wear that night,
