TrACeY AnD JO
We decided to walk in together, both holding
our dads’ hands and sat together at the front, while
our dads went and sat with our mums.
richmond Borough Council sent us their pack
all about civil partnerships and it was very
appropriate with a lot of sample wordings. Jo
didn’t want to say or read anything as she said
she’d be too nervous – though you wouldn’t
believe it as she’s normally so vivacious and
bubbly! She found the shortest set of vows that
she could and wrote a poem for me, which she
gave to her best girl Annie to read out.
I was trying to make her laugh as I wanted her
to enjoy it. A er our mums did their readings
everyone got a bit teary, so when we put the rings
said ‘I’m not walking down there on my own!’ So we
met the registrar together, with our dads. It was a
funny experience because when we first saw him we
thought he was a real straight dude.
When he saw Jo was really
nervous he put his hand
on hers and said ‘it’s OK,
my boyfriend and I had
our civil partnership last
year.’ After that it was fine.
