e first met at University in 1999
and became great friends. We
were both playing for the
university volleyball team when
they took a trip to Tobago to
play a competton. The entre team stayed in a
guesthouse and one night Ramona's friends dared
her to strike up a conversaton with me.
Life took us to different geographical locatons
a er graduaton, but we eventually met up again in
London in 2004. our atracton has always been
magnetc and in 2005 we finally gave in to the pull.
Ramona proposed at the
top of the Eiffel Tower on
my 30th birthday.
it took a while to decide on the right tme for
the ceremony, as we had a lot of friends and family
coming in from overseas.
We had the civil partnership at islington Town
Hall because we loved the architecture of the
building. We never even saw the council chamber
untl four weeks before the ceremony, when the
invites had been out for several weeks! Then we
almost lost the venue because we paid the inital
deposit well in advance – then five days before, i
realised that we had forgoten to pay the balance…
Ramona started making contngency plans for
having our friends meet at the town hall and for us
to get married on the Routemaster bus we had
booked instead, but luckily the town hall staff were
understanding – obviously realising we were two
dizzy brides! – and allowed us to setle everything
a few days before.
We knew that we wanted to wear ivory, but it
was very much an individual choice in terms of our
final selecton of outits. The underlying theme of
the day was about fusion, of many different things
– our backgrounds, religions, friends (from 18
different countries), cultures and food. We loved
the idea of taking everyone to see the London
sights from a classic Routemaster and then
merging that with a distnctly Caribbean
gastronomic experience at the recepton.
our favour boxes were full of traditonal indian
sweets and Bajan fruit cake. When we thought
about the recreaton side of the day, the main thing
we wanted to do was to be true to ourselves and
